Master’s Letter | July 2011

Greetings to all Brethren and Friends!

Greetings from the island of St. John, of  the U.S. Virgin Islands! I am currently traveling for my brother’s wedding – and found myself in this amazing place, at exactly the right time.

As all Brothers have learned, Masonry has long held a strong connection to our patron saints - St. John the Baptist and St. John the Evangelist. Over the centuries, there have been celebrations surrounding each of these days that memorialize these two saints – one who represents zeal, and the other - knowledge. It is also a time for us to come together to remember our past and to plan for the future.

It just so happens that June 24 is Saint John the Baptist Day – and incredibly, I find myself in St. John. To make this day all the more interesting - I discovered that my godfather is also my Brother. Incredible indeed that a lifelong spiritual connection grows even stronger on the day of St. John the Baptist.

Brothers, look for Masonry wherever you may be. Whether you search close to where you live, or in lands far away. Whether you search within your own being, or look to those around you - you will surely find it in the most amazing and unexpected places.

Please remember that we will be having both a regular communication and a special communication in the month of July. There will be an afterglow presentation consisting of very interesting Masonic research that our Senior Warden, Bro. Clinton Bartholomew, recently presented at the Mormon History Association.

Finally, please save the date for our Ann Arbor Tri-Lodge picnic, happening on Sunday, August 28th at Gallup Park. More details will be coming from your Lodges about this great event.

From our Lodge to you and your families, we wish you the very best of health and happiness.

Warmest fraternal regards,

Brian Cors
Worshipful Master

Master’s Letter | May 2011

Greetings to all Brethren and Friends!

May has arrived, and with it - several Fellowcrafts! We had an incredible evening, passing ten Brothers to their second degree. As we begin our Master Mason degrees starting on May 18th, we are also starting something very exciting, as these Brothers make their progress. After our Regular Communication meetings for the next several months, Brother Clinton Bartholomew [SW] and W. Robert C. Blackburn will be holding a series of lectures, during our afterglow. These lectures will contain information about the history of Freemasonry, leading up to a final talk about the genesis of the Master Mason Degree. All are welcomed and encouraged to attend.

As Masons, education and discourse are vital. In this light, our Lodge has started a brand new book club, and our first selection is, “Cracking the Freemason’s Code” by L.D. Cooper.  Brother Lee Clark has been in contact with the author, who kindly submitted additional materials for us to consider during our discussion. If you are interested in getting involved with this new venture, please contact any of your Lodge Officers - and we will send you details. This book club is open to not just our Lodge - Brothers from other Lodges are welcome to participate.

On May 21 we will tour the fantastic Detroit Masonic Temple.  This architectural treasure is the largest masonic structure in the world, and it is here in Detroit.  Join us on the tour, it will be also open to non-masons, so invite your lady or friend!

The next several months will continue to be exciting and busy for our Lodge. Degree work will continue throughout the year - and with wonderful weather approaching - many opportunities for visitation and fellowship. One can always find more details about any of our events here on our website and our Trestleboard therein.

From our Lodge to you and your families, we wish you the very best of health and happiness.

Warmest fraternal regards,

Master’s Letter | April 2011

Dearest Brethren and Friends,

As April approaches, we have 14 new Entered Apprentices eager to pursue their continued journey into our time-honored fraternity. Join us as we confer their Fellowcraft Degree on April 20th at the Pittsfield Grange. We are going to be very busy that evening! All of our Lodge Stewards - if not more Brethren - will be needed to assist with this very special evening. If you have not been to Lodge lately, please come and lend a hand!

On April 23rd we will be honoring the District Mason of the Year – our own Worshipful Bro. Art Davidge, PM. This dinner will be held at Zal Gaz Grotto, on Stadium Boulevard. RSVPs with dinner selection are due to our Junior Warden, Bro. Scott Graf no later than April 16th. Dinner will be $12, and the main entrees to choose from will be New York strip steak, chicken breast or linguini with Alfredo sauce. Please come and help honor Worshipful Brother Art!

Visitation is an important part of every Mason’s journey. By encountering new
Lodges in new places, one experiences the subtle nuances between different Lodges, different states and different countries. In Michigan, we are fortunate to have strong ties with our Prince Hall Brethren. An incredible opportunity will happen on Saturday, April 30th - a joint Master Mason Degree with the Grand Lodge of Michigan and the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Michigan. We surely will be arranging carpools to attend this event. Please contact me if you are interested in attending. EDIT: Unfortunately this event has been canceled

Interested in wearables? If you missed the first edition of our T-shirts and hooded sweatshirts, fear not. Bro. Bob Hospadaruk has done an excellent job once again in putting together an updated design for us. T-shirts are $15 and hooded sweatshirts are $30. Ordering information  can be found here on our site [NOTE: All orders are due on April 20]

Remember, one can always find more details about any of our events on this website and our Trestleboard therein. From our Lodge to you and your families, we wish you the very best of health and happiness.
Warmest fraternal regards,

Master’s Letter | January 2011

Dearest Brethren and Friends,

Welcome to the New Year - a new calendar year and a new Masonic one as well. I want to take a moment to thank everyone involved that made our Officer Installation a smashing success. We had visitors travel from near and far, including Brethren, friends and family - both from our own Lodge and others. It will be a day that I will surely be emblazoned in my memory. I am honored and proud to serve as Master of our Lodge, ever-growing and vibrant - and look forward to working with you all to have an incredible year.

It will also be a year of great change. One very noticeable change is the lack of our long-standing secretary - Worshipful Brother Seymour D. Greenstone, PM. Our dear Brother has left us, but his impact of what our Lodge has become will long be felt - and will never be forgotten. In honor of his service, and his desire for our Lodge to find a permanent home, there will be a motion made at our first Regular Communication on January 5, 2011 to name our newly created building fund after Worshipful Brother Greenstone. I and others are working to solidify a name for this fund - one that will be used to acquire a new, permanent home in the future for Ann Arbor-Fraternity No. 262. Seymour always expressed to us his desire to find a new, final place to call our own. I can’t think of a better way to honor his contributions to our Lodge - and to keep his vision moving forward to the future. Please send along suggestions you might have to name the fund accordingly.

We are now also completely moved into our new location - at the Pittsfield Union Grange Hall, located at 3337 Ann Arbor-Saline Road. This new location affords us ample physical space for meetings and meals, as we were outgrowing our previous location at Hathaway’s Hideaway. I, for one, will miss Hathaway’s - but I and the other officers are also quite excited about what our new home offers us.

Our calendar is already very busy! Our first Regular Communication will be held on Wednesday, January 5th, 2011. Following that will be a rehearsal [the evening of Wednesday, January 12th] for our next degree evening - a Fellowcraft Degree [Wednesday, January 19th]. Details for the time and location of the rehearsal will be announced soon. We have several fine men, awaiting to partake in their degrees - with the first of our new Entered Apprentices to receive theirs in February. Please come to Lodge for these special evenings and help make the experiences of our incoming candidates even better than the one you had yourself.

As always, keep a keen eye on our website and the Trestleboard therein to learn more about these the incredible things we have going on at AAF 262.

Warmest fraternal regards,

brian cors
